Our examination will produce no discomfort, even for young patients, and will cover a variety of essential topics, including whether an orthodontic condition exists; what the treatment options are to correct the condition; whether there is the possibility that any teeth will have to be removed; the amount of time the treatment will take; and how much the treatment will cost. If a problem is detected, your orthodontist will discuss whether treatment is recommended immediately or the condition should be assessed periodically. In the case of children, parents are welcome to be present during the examination.
We will take X-rays that are necessary to accurately diagnose whether an orthodontic problem exists, but rest assured that our office’s state-of-the-art equipment requires far less radiation for capturing images than in the past. Additionally, we may take photographs of a patient’s teeth and face, potentially to serve as documentation during further visits.
Children are recommended to have their first orthodontic checkup by the age of 7 at the latest, according to the American Association of Orthodontics. A child by that age will have a mix of permanent and baby teeth, and orthodontic problems can be recognized even in their early stages.
